A Warning to Dog Owners – Restrain Your Pets

There have been 13 dog attacks cross Maranoa region in as many weeks, Council says enough is enough.

stray dogsMaranoa dog owners are being told to take responsibility for their animals or face heavy penalties – dogs must be kept under control at all times.

Councillor Puddy Chandler, Portfolio Chair for Community Safety says owning a dog is a privilege, not a right and all animal owners must take responsibility for their pets.

“Dogs need to be cared for properly, disciplined, fed well and exercised.”

“With wandering dogs the biggest cause of attacks, owners must restrain their dogs at all times. This means keeping them on a leash when in public, and secured in a backyard when at home.”

“Council has put in a substantial amount of time, effort and resources educating the community on responsible dog ownership and responding to dog control enquiries. Our residents deserve the cooperation of all dog owners in keeping their dogs under effective control at all times. “

Council is warning that it will move swiftly with fines and penalties into the future.

“We need this support from our community members – we do not want any more dog attacks.”
