Maranoa Regional Council will be throwing its weight at a nomination for Roma to host the 2019 Australian Livestock Markets Association (ALMA) conference and annual general meeting.
The association holds a National Saleyards Expo, annually and is a peak national advocacy body, so Councillor Peter Flynn, Portfolio Chair for Roma Saleyards, says a pitch from Our Town to play host, just makes good sense.
“ALMA works to improve the long-term sustainability of the saleyards and lairage industry in Australia. The association holds a National Saleyards Expo annually, which incorporates its annual general meeting and conference, so 2019 would be a fitting year for Roma to host, with our facility set to celebrate its 50th year of operation.”
“Given the Roma Saleyards is the largest cattle selling centre in Australia, and next year’s special anniversary – we would very much like the chance to welcome the ALMA Conference and AGM to Roma.”
Cr Flynn says Council is a very keen bidder.
“We are looking forward to putting our ‘hat in the ring’, so we are able to showcase the Roma Saleyards – a facility that is a major part of our regional identity.”
