Kogan Creek Power Station Under Labor RET Risk

Member for Warrego Ann Leahy has come out swinging, following the release today of for Federal Climate Change Authority (CCA) which shows 75% or up to fifteen, of the nation’s existing power stations will close under Bill Shorten and Annastacia Palaszczuk’s green energy targets.

Ms Leahy says the Kogan Creek power station near Chinchilla would go under the Labor plans.

“The new analysis exposes that Labor’s crazy 50 per cent Renewable Energy Target. It will shut down power stations across the nation and threaten thousands of Queensland jobs”

Ms Leahy is calling on the Premier to guarantee the future of the Kogan facility.

“Today’s revelations will send shockwaves through every community in Queensland with a coal-fired power station. Labor’s crazy green scheme signals the death knell for the Kogan Creek station and the loss of Western Downs local jobs.”

“Clearly Annastacia Palaszczuk cares more about grabbing green votes in Brisbane and getting re-elected than she does about saving jobs on the Western Downs – it’s a disgrace.”

Ms Leahy says worryingly, and at a time when the Premier is big noting new power rebates and discounts, today’s analysis shows that the Labor 50% renewable energy target will push up Queenslanders power bills by another $200.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk’s measly 96 cents a week rebate will be totally eclipsed by the $200 a year hike in bills this report forecasts.”

“This week’s sham of a power policy from Labor was nothing more than an election eve con job from a government desperate to cling to power.”
