Maranoa Council Meeting Snapshot

Here’s the key issues discussed at this week’s Council meeting in Roma.

Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program:

Funding Council resolved to apply for funding for two projects under the Australian Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program:

-Roma Saleyards – Primaries Road Extension

-Forestry Road Improvement Project – Mt Moffatt Road – 26 kms.
Barrier Fence to the Border Collaborative Area Management Project:

This project will see 235 kms of exclusion fencing for wild dog control erected in the Maranoa region and Balonne Shire, with Council today endorsing the recommendations of the panel.

Roma Historical Precincts Inc:
Discussions with the group will occur with a view to entering a 3-year lease for the Butter Factory, during which time the group can pursue funding opportunities to purchase the facility.

Origin Energy Working Group:
Council accepted Origin Energy Australia Pacific LNG’s proposal to establish a working group to develop a plan to encourage higher rates of regionally based staff to reside locally in the Maranoa. Cr Schefe will be Council’s representative on the committee.

Recycling of Scrap Metal and Batteries:

Sims Metal Management were awarded the tender to purchase and remove scrap metal and batteries from Council waste facilities across the region.
