Mitchell’s Water Main Project Kicks Off

mi

This week Maranoa Regional Council commenced works in Mitchell to replace an ageing water main with a new larger main to improve Mitchell’s water service.

The works are taking place on the following streets:

  • Oxford Street (between Caroline Street and Ann Street)
  • Ann Street (between Oxford Street and Cambridge Street).

Councillor David Schefe, Portfolio Chair for Utilities says these works have been coordinated to minimise the impacts on Mitchell Primary State School and it is anticipated works will be complete around the school before Term 4 starts (weather permitting).

“These works are necessary to replace extremely old infrastructure that is continually getting worse. The mains will be replaced with larger diameter pipes that will increase capacity to allow for increased demand from future growth.

While works are underway, there will be temporary road closures on Ann Street to allow the new main to be installed across the street.

Works are scheduled to take approximately two weeks to complete (weather permitting).

Council says every effort will be made to minimise disruption and traffic management and signage will be in place to assist road users.
