An Opera being performed in a Quarry…now that is a new definition for rock and roll really.
And Councillor Puddy Chandler, Portfolio Chair for Tourism & Arts says it’ll be a night to remember, 1 September, when Council presents ‘A Night with Opera Queensland’ from the base of the Boral Amby Quarry.
The event, which is being funded by Maranoa Regional Council and through Council’s Regional Arts Development Fund, will provide a once in a lifetime opportunity for residents to experience and enjoy renowned operatic and musical numbers under the stars of the outback – surrounded by the walls of a quarry.
The opera will feature performances and favourite moments from Carmen, Madam Butterfly, Rigoletto and Don Giovanni.
Councilor Chandler says it’s a rare chance to be able to get up close and personal with some of the best singers from Opera Queensland, in an exceptional outback setting.
“If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to listen and experience magnificent opera from within the depths of a quarry, then you are well and truly in luck.”
The support act for the evening will be Culture Train from Brisbane’s Multicultural Arts Centre – this will include a variety of musicians from all over the world.
