Outback Unemployment Spirals

With all Outback Queensland’s youth unemployment rate now topping an unprecedented 36.6% (up 8.2% in the past year), Shadow Employment Minister Jarrod Bleijie has been quick to slam the Government’s extension to its youth employment scheme.

Looking for workShadow Employment Spokesman Jarrod Bleijie says the announcement is cold comfort to the 21,000 young Queenslanders who have given up their search for work.

“What an insult to hear the Premier today crowing about throwing a few extra dollars at an employment scheme that’s been a dismal failure for our young people.”

“Under the Palaszczuk Labor Government 21,000 Queenslanders have given up their search for a job, and 11,000 youth jobs have simply vanished.”

“People have lost hope under this hopeless government. Our great state is in the grip of a youth unemployment crisis.”
