Vale – Carol Lloyd

Legendary Queensland Singer and Rock and Roll Trail Blazer Carol Lloyd has passed away.

She became known in the 70’s as Australia’s first ‘Rock Chick’ and was dubbed Australia’s ‘Wild Woman of Rock’.

Carol lloydBest known for her hit singles, her first three singles – “A Matter of Time”, double-sided hit, “Do ya Love Me/Academy Rock” and ‘You Told the World” all of which charted No. 1, Carol is also known for winning the first world-wide EMI International publishing contract issued to any artist in Australia.

Carol’s songs were published in 27 countries, with her first album, “A Matter of Time” with Railroad Gin racing up to No. 1 in 3 weeks, and her second, “Mother was Asleep” charting No.1 or top 3 in Germany, France, Japan, Holland, and Indonesia.

Premier Annastacia has expressed her sadness at Carols’ passing.

“I am saddened to hear Carol Lloyd has passed away. Carol was a trailblazer in rock ‘n’ roll and she was passionate about encouraging the next generation of musicians.”

Last year, the Government announced it was supporting the Carol Lloyd Award to be presented to an emerging female singer-songwriter, who was either born in, or resides in, Queensland.

The inaugural winner of this Award will be announced at Queensland Music Festival launch this year. Her memory will be celebrated through this Award.

CarolLloydCarol was also deeply respected in the media and advertising industries, working as a senior creative inn Brisbane and Australia, first training as a Writer/Producer in radio (4KQ) and a number of other stations in Brisbane.

Carol worked in London in 1969, where she headed up the Sales Contracting & Copyright Control department (Western Hemisphere) at global TV series distributor, ITC – Incorporated Television Company, issuing contracts for the sale of cult series like ‘Thunderbirds’, ‘The Saint’ and ‘Dangerman’ to TV networks across the globe.
