Former Minister in the Goss Labor Government and former leader of the ALP in Queensland, Nev Warburton has passed away.
Mr Warburton served as the member for Sandgate from 1977 until he retired in 1992.
He was Parliamentary leader of the ALP in Queensland 1984 and lead the party into the 1986 election with a number of new policies, including the introduction of random breath testing and a plan to ban uranium mining in the state.
After handing leadership of the party to Wayne Goss from 1988 he served in the Goss government Ministry as Minister for Employment, Training and Industrial relations and then later as Minister for Police and Emergency Services.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has expressed her condolences saying Mr Warburton had given a “lifetime of public service” to the State.
