Yesterday (Monday, 30 July 2018), the new reservoir on the corner of Miscamble Street and Queen Street experienced a water overflow, which caused a release of excess water.
Maranoa Regional Council attended the site yesterday morning to identify the cause of the overflow and it was identified that a valve on this reservoir did not stop water entering once it had reached the maximum water level, causing the overflow.
Council says valves are installed to control water levels as the reservoir is filled and with this reservoir close to completion and awaiting final commissioning, Council is currently ensuring all valves are working correctly to ensure this overflow does not happen again.
In this year’s budget, Council has committed to expand and upgrade its Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system which will allow Council to remotely manage its bores and reservoirs.
This will allow crews to respond to alerts from the system, rather than performing manual checks or relying on reports from the community.
